Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is Yoga Green Book only for black folks?

We believe black folks must have a location-independent space for health and healing, where we can openly discuss the unique experiences we face in the wellness world and ways to empower our well-being.

Though Yoga Green Book was created with black people in mind, anyone is welcome to join; our membership community is diverse in every way, join us!

2. How does the free trial work?

You can try our online studio for free for 14 days. If you like Yoga Green Book, do not do anything: your membership will continue automatically as long as you decide to keep it. You can cancel your membership anytime.

3. What do I get with a membership?

See our membership plans here.

4. Do I need to have prior yoga experience?

No. We have classes created for complete beginners. You can find videos to fit your needs, level, and schedule (even 5 minutes a day can be life-changing). See the descriptions of our class levels at the bottom of the page.

5. Can I do yoga if I am not flexible?

Absolutely! It can be scary and intimidating to start yoga, especially if you feel like you are not flexible enough. You don't have to be flexible at all to practice yoga. Yoga is not about pose perfection. The poses are just vehicles on our inner journey that help refine our bodies, deepen our awareness, and enhance our powers of concentration. Also, poses prepare our body and mind for meditation and stillness, helping us reach liberation and consciousness.

6. I’m an experienced yoga practitioner. Would I still benefit?

We believe yoga is a journey and not a destination, and the real benefits come with consistent practice. Membership is the perfect way to customize your wellness plan (based on your current needs) and deepen your awareness. Since our videos range in length, level, and focus area, you can always find a class to fit your needs.

7. How often are videos added?

Videos are typically added weekly.

8. Will I be able to access all of the videos at once?

Yep!

9. How long can I access the videos?

You have access to videos as long as you are a member. You can cancel your membership anytime by clicking on your profile avatar and then selecting ‘Manage Subscriptions’.

10. I am pregnant. Can I take the Yoga Green Book classes?

Yes. Consult your health care provider before beginning yoga or any exercise program (whether you are pregnant or not). Your health care provider can offer personalized guidelines based on your medical history. In general, if you are pregnant, when practicing yoga we recommend following these guidelines.

11. Why is there a cost for membership?

Studies show a correlation between the financial gap and the health gap of black Americans. Because of this, we intentionally use our economic spending power and channel money back into the community through job creation.

12. How are your class levels defined?

Level 1

Classes focus on the basics of alignment and linking breath with movement to help students build a strong foundation, physically and mentally, of their practice. These classes are ideal for the complete beginner or for anyone who wants to practice the fundamentals of yoga's physical aspects.

Level 2

Classes assume some knowledge of fundamental yoga poses. There will be less pose instruction, a more vigorous pace, and exploration of more complex postures and sequences.

Level 3

Classes are geared towards regular practitioners. Poses may be held longer, and transitions from one pose to another may be quicker. These classes allow the practitioner to explore more complex postures, challenging sequences, and subtle aspects of the yoga practice. These classes are suitable for students with at least one year of consistent asana practice.

All Levels

Classes are suitable for students of various levels of yoga knowledge and experience. Teachers will offer pose variations for students to choose what works best for them that day.

Note: With all class levels, you are encouraged to become familiar with your limitations and strengths. We empower you to make modifications that feel useful to your body. Always honor your body and do not continue any movement in which you experience pain.
